IAB Board of Directors meeting in Washington DC approved the "IAB Basis for legislation on platforms and new digital technologies in defense of Freedom of Expression and Democracy".

The IAB Board of Directors held its Mid-Year Meeting on Monday, May 13, organized by its Institutional Partner, the National Association of Broadcasters - NAB, with an excellent program of activities.

The meeting was conducted by the President of IAB, Dr. Paulo Tonet Camargo, and included the presentation of a detailed report on the situation of Freedom of Expression in Latin America, presented by the President of the Committee on Freedom of Expression, Lic. Ana María Urrutia de Lara.

The Board of Directors considered and unanimously approved a transcendental document, which becomes part of IAB's Doctrine: " IAB's Bases for a Legislation on platforms and new digital technologies in defense of Freedom of Expression and Democracy". This document is considered a fundamental instrument, not only for the sustainability of Radio and Television stations, but also as a guide to face the great challenges and risks to Freedom of Expression and Democracy in the face of regulatory asymmetry and disruption caused by large global digital platforms.

In addition, several resolutions were approved on various issues affecting private and free-to-air broadcasting in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua.

Special presentation of our new BIOP Adherent Partner

Ing. José Luis Saca, First Vice President of IAB and CEO of BIOP, presented to the Board of Directors his new venture, whose main objective is to use technology and data for the benefit of broadcasters. Mr. Saca described this new instrument as an initiative "made by broadcasters, for broadcasters".

Presentation by NAB experts on the importance of AM Radio for audiences.

Mr. Larry Walke (Associate General Counsel of the NAB) offered an interesting exchange on the regulations governing electoral advertising on radio and television stations in the United States. Ms. Nicole Gustafson (NAB Senior Vice President Government Relations) explained the legislative initiative, currently under discussion in the US Congress, which will require automobile manufacturers to maintain AM radio receivers in all automobiles marketed in the United States.

Initiative of ASDER - Escuela Salvadoreña de Locución (Salvadoran School of Speech)

Lic. Mario Pacheco, from the Asociación Salvadoreña de Radiodifusores (ASDER), explained the functioning and objectives of the Escuela Salvadoreña de Locución (ESAL), which offers a diploma and certification in radio broadcasting.
