For a New Year filled with freedom and hope!
As 2025 draws to a close, the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) extends its warmest greetings and best wishes to all journalists, media workers, and media owners across the American continent, as well as to our member associations and colleagues throughout the three Americas.
This year has brought serious challenges to freedom of expression and the safety of journalists. Dictatorships persist in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, and, tragically, we have witnessed further attacks and killings of media professionals in the region.
And yet, we remain hopeful. At IAB, we firmly believe that a freer, more democratic, and more prosperous future is possible — one where independent, private media continue to be a pillar of democracy and a voice for the people. Wherever there is courageous journalism, there is better-informed citizenship. Wherever there are strong, independent media, democracy thrives.
IAB reaffirms its unwavering commitment to defending freedom of expression, protecting journalists, and strengthening a pluralistic, sustainable media ecosystem — essential for just and open societies.
May this holiday season and the new year bring peace, solidarity, truth, and justice. May 2026 be a year of freedom, democracy, and renewed opportunity for all.
